Drug regulation

• Medical Device Rules 2017 has been notified
which provides for risk based classification,
licensing and regulation of medical devices.
• National Regulatory Authority (NRA)
declared functional
• Pan – India National Drugs Survey reveals
Not of Standard Quality (NSQ) drugs level
as low as 3.16% and spurious drugs lower at
0.0245%
• New National List of Essential Medicines
(NLEM -2015) includes 376 medicines
• Coronary stents ceiling price fixed post
their addition to National List of Essential
Medicines (NLEM)
• Amount of Rs 1,750 Crore has been approved
for strengthening drug regulatory structure
both at Central and States.
• Commencement of online clearance
of imports consignment through and
integrated declaration at single entry pointthe
Customs Gateway (ICEGATE)- with risk
based inspection and sampling.
• Clinical trial approval process simplified for
ease of business
• Transparency and ease of processing drugs,

Food Regulation

• Over 7 lakhs 86 thousand 736 State licenses and 32 thousand 575 central licenses granted and 30 lakhs 22 thousand 627 FBO registered.
• Operationalization of food import clearance
system at 6 locations that is Tuticorin, Chennai,
Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and Cochin.
• 24×7 custom clearance at Mumbai and power of
clearance delegated to customs at 125 locations.
• Standards developed for 16 articles of food
including maximum limit for trans fatty acid-
Mycotoxins/ Nots/ Chromium
• Capacity building of street food vendors in partnership with Skill India
• Number of food testing labs increased to more than 200 and referral lab to 16
• Scheme for strengthening Food Testing System
incuding Mobile Food Testing Labs rolled out at a
cost of Rs 481.95 Crore
• Approx 11 thousand 600 standards / 10 regulations oprationalised including
• Food Safety and Standards (Food for Health supplements, Nutraceuticals, Foods for Special Dietary Uses, Foods for Special Medical Purpose, Functional Foods, and Novel Food) Regulations, 2015
• Oprationalised Food Safety and Standards (Fortification of Food) Regulations, 2016
• Food Safety and Standards (Import Regulations), 2017
• Food Safety and Standards (Food Recall Procedure) Regulations, 2017
• Manual on quick test for detection of food adulterants at households and aboratories
