AICTE synergises with Industry for Healthy India
Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe
Hon’ble Chairman, AICTE
Professor Anil Sahasrabudhe who is currently holding the post of Chairman AICTE on deputation from IIT Guwahati has a set of meritorious academic credentials associated with him. He did his Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Gold Medal from Karnataka University (1980) followed by Master of Engineering (1982) and PhD from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore with UGC fellowship (1989).
Professor Sahasrabudhe had short stint in Tata Consulting Engineers (1983). He started his teaching career at North Eastern
Regional Institute of Science and Technology, Itanagar from 1987 and then continued at IIT Guwahati from 1995, both from their inception. He held various responsibilities such as HoD, Dean of Academic Affairs, Chairman JEE and Deputy Director at IIT Guwahati. He then served as Director of College of Engineering, Pune from 2006 to 2015 turning around the college. He is a recipient of Praj Intrapreneur Award in 2011 and Edupreneur Award in 2012.
In an interview with Healthy India Chronicle correspondent, Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe shares his perspective on the current status of academia, industry & offers relevant solutions to the challenges impacting health care in India.
What is your view on New India through Make in India, Digital India, Startup & Standup.
India is changing. Make in India, Skill India, Digital India & Startup India are empowering the people of the Country. To support all such initiatives sound health is important. Hence AICTE has mandated all institutes to have sports / yoga as mandatory.
What are Initiative taken by AICTE to Make Healthy India.
All institutes are expected to have a playground and sports facilities. AICTE encourages healthy habits & participation in sports. This will make our students healthy and fit.
What are AICTE plans to upgrade academic curriculum in healthcare towards orienting healthcare policy for patient care?
All institutes should have an innovation and research lab with facilities being kept open 24×7 for all students.

How it can be achieved? What steps need to be taken to accomplish accessible healthcare for all citizens of the country?
AICTE is engaging with industry for regular upgradation of curriculum, providing internship to students. The live industry problems are given for final year projects. All this is increasing employability & creating startups on campuses.
What are the key recommendations if any given to the government in the form of representations to better academic infrastructure and quality?
Skill development is another initiative undertaken by AICTE. Skills in healthcare sector are going to be very significant in years to come.

How can the quality of education be enhanced to better prospects of employment avenues in the field of healthcare?
In the years ahead, AICTE shall play an all pervasive, supportive and facilitator role to all technical institutes thereby realising the national dreams.
“Generating awareness amongst the student fraternity about health initiative can usher in revolution in health care.
AICTE should act as an interface between the students, Goverment & Industry for a Healthy India.
The vision of public health therefore need to be publicised for better understanding and maintaining a healthy society.”
